In this case study, we see how the United States acted against several of the most prolific telemarketing companies leading to the largest fines in FCC history. Owners of six telemarketing companies developed a scheme to contact unsuspecting American consumers. According to investigators, they used the telephone with the intent to deceive consumers. Authorities alleged that the companies wanted to induce consumers into purchasing health insurance from less-than-reputable companies.
